Colonial Time Again

Last year during colonial week we had just started the FTB and it was so fun to see people at the tournament in our clothes and also to get calls, texts, and emails from frantic ladies who needed the perfect size clutch to get in the gates of the tournament! Last year was also my first year to attend the tournament and get a feel for what all the fuss is about! What a fun week to watch golf, see old friends, make new friends, and of course have a reason to buy some new threads!

This year we are ready for the crowd! Clothes, jewelry, small clutches and more are waiting for you at Funky Trunks Boutiques! We just received two shipments of clothes and jewelry.  Flowy tops for days on the course and fun dresses for the after parties. Call us if we are not open and we will make sure you get some shopping time at Funky Trunks Boutiques before you head out for a fun day!

We are open this weekend Friday and Saturday 10-4… Don’t miss out on the tournament this week and don’t miss out on shopping at the FTB!

Freedom in Fashion

“What a girl wants, what a girl needs, whatever makes you happy and sets you free” Christina Aguilera

It’s funny how sometimes lyrics get stuck in your head and even though the song was written about love or relationships, you can often take a little snip and apply it to something else entirely silly and just hold on to it.

Listening to this old favorite tune, driving down the road with the windows rolled down, I looked at my hand on the steering wheel, noticed I needed a manicure, and then smiled at the “arm party” I had going on that day. I love bracelets. I have, for about 5 years, not gone a day without at least 4 bracelets on my wrist, but usually more! This makes me happy and in a small way sets me free.

Freedom comes from the meaning behind each of the bracelets I wear. They each have a story. They represent family gained, family lost, a reminder of where my hope is found, a nickname from my sister, a gift from my husband, the team I cheer for…etc. These things set me free because they remind me of my story and they make me smile.

What makes you happy and sets you free? I have friends that freedom comes in the insanely awesome shoes they wear or their ever-changing hair color or cut. Freedom may come in turning off your cell phone and living a simple life for a day. Whatever it is… find it!

If you need a little freedom wear for your arm come see us at the FTB our custom leather bracelets (Priced 20-40$) are the perfect piece to start your arm party and remember what sets you free!

What’s YOUR Style?

People often say to me “I love your style” or “only you would think of that” when it comes to the way that I dress and put things together. Without fail I always think, “what exactly is my style and why do they love it” because for years I have tried to have a “style” and consistently failed. I have tried to go all grey, black and white… that got boring. I tried bright colors and felt like a stood out for the wrong reasons on several occasions. I also spent some time with the Audrey Hepburn look and although I loved the look, going to the grocery store or chasing kids in pearls and high neckline dresses just isn’t always as glamorous or functional as you imagine it to be … so what is my style?

I’ve come to reason that all of these things are my style! My style is whatever I feel like that day. And today, as I sit here watching the snow fall with my coffee in hand, my style is super thick black tights with an attached mini skirt and layer upon layer of white long-sleeved shirts, topped off with a super thick scarf (FTB Duh) and complete with pink and navy Sorel snow boots (fur at the top of course) with leg warmers coming out of the top. If I venture outside I’ll probably throw on a puffer vest of some sort and call it a day, but that is not likely.

Trying to stay warm! and keep it Funky too!!

Trying to stay warm! and keep it Funky too!!

This look may not be my best, but I am cozy and warm and today this is my style!

So if you’ve ever wondered or worried about your style… don’t! Your style is YOU and you’ve already got that part covered! Be you everyday and the rest will fall into place!

And don’t forget to Keep it Funky!!

It’s Been So Long…

I had all of these dreams of blogs I would do this summer.. Courtney’s Favorite Things (neon and jumpsuits), Best Vacation Outfits (blue and white Hawaii dress and pink and white fringe cape dress), Ways to Stay Cool and Look Sleek (green petal short with cross over spaghetti strap white top) etc. However,  FTB has been so busy this summer we haven’t even had time to think about blogging much less actually sit down to make it happen! That’s not a bad thing; it means business is good! We have been updating our facebook page so many of you have been keeping up with what FTB has been doing this summer or trends we are loving and what we are seeing people wear on their vacations, so you are up to speed. So, I’m here to tell you about that parties have been booming,  dear friends are leaving for great adventures and moving to other countries and Funky Trunks Boutiques has been moving…. Moving? YES! FTB is moving into

But more on that in a minute! (Can’t stand it? Scroll down to the last paragraph) !!

First, I want to talk about the Ridglea Sip-N-Shop. On top of the fabulous June/July parties hosted by S. Hamilton, A. Flores, A. Martinez, J. Treger and C. Cherry, we were asked to be a merchant in the Ridglea 400 Sip-N-Shop at Ridglea Country Club! We were invited to be part of this event back in April when we were just launching FTB and we have been excited ever since. You could even say that we were perhaps a little over zealous when the day finally came for the show! We arrived early, the first ones there, which if you know us is a miracle because one of us is always running behind, and we were the last ones to leave! We had to keep it funky with the staff after the shoppers were gone!

As we rolled in rack after rack of clothing, hung party lights, laid out cowhide rugs, started jamming our music and began to set up… we quickly realized that maybe we brought a little too much stuff! But if you know FTB you know we are always over the TOP! Now, I am not naming names or pointing fingers, but a certain owner who has blonde hair may have been caught popping bottles of champagne in the corner, winking at waiters to get extra iced tea, and had several clothing malfunctions throughout the night (dang bando). But, said owner also may have earned the nickname MacGyver by using a thumb tack and a 2×4 to hang party lights and a canvas painting on a stone wall! But I will never rat anyone out… I will only tell stories with slight embellishments!! Funky Trunks had a WONDERFUL night sippin’ and shoppin’ with all of the ladies at Ridglea… and I hear they may have liked us a little bit too!

On Thursday after the Sip-N-Shop we at the FTB were hit with a little dose of reality! Our first almost real employee, Carrie Hamstra, had just helped with her last party before departing for her new home in Medellin, Colombia. We lost her to South America, but only for 2 years we hope! In her minimal suitcases allowed Carrie managed to fit all of her Funky Trunks Boutiques clothing! Her new closet looks like a FTB STORE! (FTB … STORE… hold that thought)

We wanted to send a little shout to our little Colombian one more time to say THANK YOU CARRIE!! We could not have survived without you the past few months and we will miss you along with all of those lucky ladies that you have dressed in the cutest FTB outfits at the parties!! In 2 years come back and get ready for Monkey Funks to explode!

So now, back to the subject that I have mentioned two times so far… have you caught on yet? The Party Spot and FTB…what? STORE???? The day of demolition has come and gone we got to busy to blog, again… but we did manage to snap a few pics to show what is happening on Bluebonnet Circle!

Ripped out those floors! Let the Parties begin!

Ripped out those floors! Let the Parties begin!

We have been looking for a spot to keep our merchandise and office out of for a couple of months now. We quickly realized that loading and unloading all of our merchandise in people’s homes was fun, but tiring on everyone involved! Our hostesses have all been so gracious letting us unload and set up hours before parties and then tear down for 1-2 hours after parties. We even had a sweet friend that let us leave our merchandise over night because it was pouring down rain when we finished at her house and 9:30 pm! We also realized that we break a lot of jewelry trying to carry this stuff all over creation every week! That’s just not cost-effective! So… we have come up with a place where you can have your party without having to give up your home for several hours and we can leave our merchandise stationery!

Funky Trunks Boutiques, The Party Spot, will work the same was FTB has worked from the beginning. You call, email, or facebook us and give us some dates and we will collaborate to find a date and send you an invite to send to all of your friends or post of your facebook page! We are so excited to get The Party Spot open and have been working around the clock to get ready! We are hosting our first private party for Lauren Cara tomorrow night! It will so much fun—even if we are still a little rough around the edges!

So that’s our big news! We are still keepin’ Fort Worth funky one party at a time!! Come see us at The Party Spot and follow our Facebook page to know when YOU can shop!!

Colonial, Parties, and Market…

Was it only a week ago that the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial began? We have been so excited about all of our Funky Friends that we saw at the tournament with Funky Trunks clothes on! Even my husband, Brian, was walking up to ladies asking if they were wearing Funky Trunks! Some were… and some were not … his eye for our inventory is not as good as ours! But how wonderful to see ladies in our clothes and carrying our wristlets all around the tournament and around town!

On Sunday, yes when it was raining, we had another FABULOUS party!!! The ladies in Willow Park know how to shop! Kortnye and Kelly were gracious hosts who brought on the shoppers and got some great perks from their party! Look for the posts from their party our Facebook page. We could not have done Sunday’s party without Carrie Hamstra! Our beautiful and perfect little helper, advertiser, model, etc! Stacy could not make sundays show and Carrie stepped in to fill those big shoes!

So now, what you all really want to hear about… MARKET! We could only go to market one day this week… but we made our one day jam packed full of GREAT finds from clothing and jewelry lines all over the country! We are getting some Nikki Bikki under garments! Everyone who has been asking for them will be so excited! Elan International is a line that we currently have a few pieces of but soon we will have more of this amazing line and we are already ordering for fall so that we don’t miss out on the amazing fall looks that they have. (leather and zippers.. um yes please!)

Market is so much fun until hunger sets in… so of course I was getting “Hangry” (hungry+angry) and Stacy was just putting up with me the best she could.. so we decided, in the middle of placing an order, that we should eat and go to a fashion show immediately! That poor girl who was trying to get us through our order! We just told her we would come back! (btw we did go back for another AMAZING line FATE will be here in August!)

Going to lunch we met our new friends… States of Mind Clothing! From Little Rock, AR (love) !!Image

These guys ROCKED!! As you can tell from the background these guys do t-shirts with very cool sayings for a variety of states.. our state TEXAS has some amazeballs shirts AND we are getting some shirts for the MEN!!??! What?! Yes ladies get ready to buy for your husbands, sons, boyfriends, brothers…!! We will do some posting when we get them in our hands!

WOWza! I have so much spinning in my head I can’t even think of what to tell you! so… I’ll just let some photos do the talking! Keep it Funky Fort Worth!!! and keep shopping with Funky Trunks Boutiques!! and don’t get HANGRY at people!

How this Funky thing Works…

We have been hosting Funky Trunks Boutiques parties for a little over a month, although it feels like we have been doing it for 6 months. When we started out with this idea we never dreamed it would be as big as it has become so quickly! We are in no way complaining, but we have been overwhelmed to the point that we never really got around to posting exactly what we do on our Facebook page, which is where most of you see us, or on our website, which is still being neglected as we plan for parties.

Funky Trunks Boutiques (FTB), to put it simply, is a private shopping experience for a specific group of ladies. The host of the party invites FTB to come to her home and then invites her friends to come and hang out and shop! We are there to help style ladies as needed and make suggestions when asked our opinions, but we truly love seeing old friends and new friends find clothes that are affordable and make them feel great! It is a blast to have already met some truly incredible gals!

We do not give a speech during an FTB party or pressure anyone to book a party or buy anything that they don’t love. Stacy is the most honest salesman that you will ever meet and will let you know very quickly  when she “doesn’t love something” or it isn’t her “favorite”. If you are ever at one of our parties and she says these things to you just go ahead and put that item back! But then expect her to find you something that is even better and more perfect for you!

We always try to remember to tell people to like us on Facebook and use our Instagram, #keepitfunkyfw, and let them know how to book a party… but I said we “try” to do those things but most of the time we are just having so much fun that we forget! Praise the Lord that people are able to find us anyway and we still get parties and Facebook likes regardless of what we actually remember!

We are often asked by people on our Facebook page if they can attend one of our parties. If the party is at one of our homes or an open party, then by all means we will say come on over! However, if the party is hosted in a clients home we can’t invite other people to just show up. So if you have been sad, as some have stated, that you have not been invited to a party.. don’t blame us! Blame your friends for not hosting an FTB party!! 🙂 or call us and we can let you know if there is an open party date on the books, but they do not happen often. We are trying to figure out this problem so stay tuned!!

Another source of confusion has been online sales! We know we know… Everyone wants to  buy it online!! And believe us we want to be able to support that too!! And we WILL! For now, we are able to send things out after parties are completed because we could literally sell out of our inventory and not have enough to make a party worthwhile if we started doing online sales the way people want us to! We will get there!! PINKY PROMISE! It’s coming but we are “low budge” right now and need to clone ourselves since we can’t afford to have employees just yet!

So I think that we have covered everything! This is Funky Trunks Boutiques. We are having so much fun getting to shop with all of you! Book a party soon! Dates are filling up quickly!!!

Aside

Junk in the Trunk, Funky Junk, and how it all began…

I am not a writer… I daydream about writing, but I am not, nor will I ever claim to be, a writer. That’s my only disclaimer for this blog. Don’t expect wonderful writing or correct punctuation… Just wonderful, fun stories of how we started our business, Funky Trunks Boutiques (FTB), and the antics that go along with being wives, moms, business owners and friends all at the same time.  Continue reading
